Online timer

By the Rise team ยท Updated 3 November 2026.

A countdown you can run in the browser, with an alarm beep, labels, and more than one timer at a time. Set hours, minutes and seconds, or tap a preset, then press Start.

In short

  • Presets for 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 and 60 minutes
  • Each timer has its own label, pause and reset
  • The beep repeats until you stop it, or for 60 seconds

Countdown

How to use it

Type the hours, minutes and seconds, or tap a preset: 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 or 60 minutes. Press Start. Pause holds the countdown. Resume continues from the time that is left. Reset takes you back to the length you set. At zero, a beep plays until you press Stop alarm, or for 60 seconds, whichever comes sooner.

The clock stores an end time and works out what is left on each tick. A slow tab does not make the countdown drift. When you return, the page reads that end time again. Timers are saved in this browser, so a reload keeps a running countdown and the labels you typed.

Tips for several timers

Press Add timer for each thing you are waiting on, and name it: tea, oven, laundry, a meeting. Each one starts, pauses and finishes on its own. Remove a timer when you are done with it. The browser tab title follows the running timer that ends soonest, for example 04:59 โ€“ Tea โ€“ Timer. When one hits zero, the title flashes Time's up.

Ready-made lengths: 10 minute timer, 15 minute timer, 20 minute timer, 30 minute timer, and a power nap timer.

Phones and background tabs

Mobile browsers slow down a tab you cannot see, and a locked screen can delay it further. The numbers still know when the countdown should have ended, so they jump to the right time when you come back. The beep itself can be late if the phone was not running the page. Keeping the screen on avoids that delay. While any timer is running, this page uses the Screen Wake Lock API when the browser offers it.

Keyboard shortcuts

Shortcuts do not run while you are typing in a field.

Embed this timer

Pick a length and a theme. The snippet updates as you change them. Copy it into another page. The widget is one countdown with start, pause, reset and the alarm.

For mornings

For mornings, Rise is an Android alarm app with optional Pay to Snooze. iOS is coming soon.

A morning alarm is a different job from a short countdown. Read why snooze is 9 minutes, how to stop hitting snooze, whether snoozing is bad for you, and how to wake up on the first alarm.

FAQ

Will the timer keep running if I switch tabs?

The countdown stores an end time and calculates what is left on each tick, including when you come back to the tab. Browsers can delay work in a background tab, so the beep may wait until the page runs again. The numbers catch up from the end time.

Can I run more than one timer?

Yes. Add a timer, give it a label, and start it on its own. Remove any timer you no longer need. The tab title shows the running timer that ends soonest, as minutes and seconds, then the label, then the word Timer.

How does the alarm sound work?

The beep is made in the browser with the Web Audio API. Pressing Start creates or resumes the audio so the sound can play later. It repeats until you press Stop alarm or 60 seconds pass. A volume slider and a Test sound button sit with the controls. No file is loaded from another site.

Are notifications required?

No. Notifications are optional. The page asks for permission when you press Allow notifications, and not before. If you decline, or the browser cannot show them, the beep, the on-screen message and the tab title still tell you when time is up.

Will it work on a phone?

Yes. The buttons are large enough to tap and the layout is built for a small screen. While a timer is running, the page asks the phone to keep the screen awake when that feature is available. A locked screen or a background tab can still delay the beep, so leave the screen on when you need to hear it.

Can I embed this timer?

Yes. Use the Embed this timer section on this page. Choose a length and a light, dark or auto theme, then copy the snippet. The widget is a single countdown with start, pause, reset and the alarm. The embed address asks search engines not to index it, and it links back here.
